paris fashion week: haider ackermann

the s/s 2011 season meant an injection of colour into haider ackermann's usually dark lineup, with shades of the ubiquitous traffic cone orange and cobalt blue (perhaps to pacify the likes of janet jackson, as she appeared in the audience and her celebrity ilk).
nevertheless, the designer managed to keep many of his characteristically challenging shapes in the lineup, with some of the flashes of skin so (almost) bizarre (see the dress two down) if anyone dared wear them on a red carpet, they’d likely be eviscerated (even by the fashion crowd).
anyway, for the more conservative customer, he still doled out pieces enough; consider the relatively safe jacket paired with the dress below…it is a staple for everyone, yes?
it was also a treat to see the interplay between the tougher looks with the sweet, the cut of an evening dress particularly soft, but topped with what could be a biker jacket. and although this has been done many a time (with frequently droll results…see gucci, most seasons), he handled it with finesse, the choices of silks and leathers relating well enough nothing seemed forced or misplaced.
as probably one of the more exciting labels in paris (those belgians win me over every time), one capable of offering wearable-yet-interesting clothes, it’s a bit sad to think it has now gone the way of the celebrity audience. no, it hasn’t made the switch to palatable oscar dresses just yet, but that it is coming in a few seasons is palpable in the air.
