brisbane fashion festival: akira

so at the moment, i don’t know whether to be frustrated, or simply let it go because opt is in fast-forward motion, anyway. although according to the above site where i got my images, we’re looking at the s/s 2013 akira show at brisbane fashion festival, i wasn’t able to find really any articles on the subject. and we all know that most of the australian cities that aren’t sydney—save maybe melbourne—get little to no press on their fashion shows, but still, many of the same designers also show in sydney, so are they somehow less deserving when they’re not in attendance there?

argh, frustrating. but anyway, more on the point, we’ve been lucky enough to see a good number of talented designer akira isogawa’s absolutely. stunning. collections in the past (see a/w 2010, s/s 2011, f/w 2012, & s/s 2012), i’d always love to hear more about his work, and whence his ideas spring.

anyway, the present spring range, as ever, couples the designer’s beloved asian motifs (though they’re always at varying degrees of subtlety), coupled with a more western silhouette, so girls around the globe can wear them with ease and without the pieces feeling too costume-y. and though he went for a lot more classic black and white/off-white, as well as some more autumnal hues (like deep aubergine and olive), he couldn’t resists some pops of bright colour, as ever.

this feels a bit like a pre-collection to me, in that none of the dresses were, like, overpowering with their arty-ness, as we sometimes see from the designer, and while they were all very, very pretty and completely wearable, there was nothing that, like, revolutionized my world, either, as, say, the designer did with his s/s 2012 show in sydney this past may. but that’s fine. i’ll expect to see him knocking it out of the park again soon. probably in sydney. where, at least, he’ll receive lots of press for the effort.
