brisbane fashion festival: akira

we heard from akira last at the melbourne fashion festival, and though i wasn’t displeased with what we saw, the spring offerings here in brisbane were so much lovelier.

rather than the cute/sprightly dresses we saw there, replete with little flips and japanese hints, these had a sobering beauty of their own, understated when juxtaposed with those bright colors and lavish “i’ve the worst job in the office, but the best sense of style!” aesthetic we were dealing with then.

additionally, we got to see some really marvelous ‘would make one actually consider marriage in a white gown’ bridal dresses, a little patchworked and compelling for their imperfections. somehow, this collection seemed less the victim of a recession, more organic, and better made. and those shoes so abhorrent have been replaced with something that gives us reason enough to stick around, if last season didn’t scare you off for good.
